should I use "selection" as in a "Selection of poems of Edgar Alan Poe" or
should I use "we present an excerpt from the studies of..."
or somenthing entirely diferent?

I agree with 'time frame' suggested by Luis Fernando, but it is only applicable to the second sentence (recorte de tempo). For the first sentence, I don't see why not to use 'selection' or excerpt'. The point is, that section of the whole was chosen for its ability to represent well the general idea of the entire research.

Explanation:
For "recorte de tempo" I would suggest "time frame".

For "recorte dos estudos", I think "selection" or "excerpt" are good options. As a suggestion, I don't know whether "approach" could be an option. "Recorte" gives me an idea that it is much more a point of view or an angle with respect to the whole than the selection of a smaller portion of the total (as I understand from "selection" and "except")
