French term

ophtalmique droite est positive

French to English Medical Medical: Cardiology Doppler-ultrasound
Hi,

This is a report of a doppler-ultrasound of the supra-aortic trunks.

I have two sentences
"L'ophthalmique droite est positive" and "l'ophthalmique gauche est positive."

The sentences above report on the internal and external carotid arteries.

Thanks

Joanna

Statistical analysis
For each study, we constructed a two-by-two contingency table consisting of true-positive (TP), false-positive (FP), false-negative (FN), and true-negative (TN) results. For the analysis, we called a result a true positive if the CDI finding was concordant and in agreement with the reference standard findings. We calculated sensitivity as TP/(TP + FN) and specificity as TN/(FP + TN).

Right ophthalmic is positive ... left ophthalmic is positive

Eye function involves the ophthalmic artery, a part of the carotid artery.

I assume "positive" means the person has a problem (a blockage).
Peer comment(s):

agree philgoddard : I think you should say "artery". And isn't "positive" ambiguous?

Merci Phil. Yes, ambiguous which does make me uncertain here. There may be more context? But "positive" usually is bad news, in med exams. Whether to say "artery" - the ST didn't, so the author seems to think readers won't need it.
agree Barbara Schmidt, M.A. (X) : agree - it's medspeak anyhow - this is about the image and its interpretation
