What I'm confused about is the length of time this project took. Is he saying that the project was supposed to take 10 months but actually ended up taking 2 years? Or was the 2 years extra, on top of the 10 months - because he refers to a post-production period of a couple of years (2?) OR, was the post-production period extra time in addition to the 10 months and/or 2 years? I'm not sure what the "hubiera sido necesario" refers to in this context.

I think from the context, it's saying that they ended up getting it done really quickly. The transcription may be a little inaccurate in terms of its punctuation.
