German term

verstehen sich netto

German to English Bus/Financial Law: Contract(s)
"Nach diesem Vertrag geschuldete Beträge verstehen sich netto, d.h. etwaige gesetzliche Verkehrssteuern sind vom jeweiligen Schuldner zusätzlich geschuldet. Der Lieferant sichert zu, in dem Land seines Geschäftssitzes vorsteuerabzugsberechtigt zu sein."

Penultimate clause of this contract, and they have to throw more wretched financial jargon at me. Does "verstehen sich netto" just mean "are net"? Or is it something like "are calculated in net terms"? Is there any sort of standard way to translate this phrase? TIA for your help.

Another option is: \"are net of\", but in any case the German idiom \"verstehen sich netto\" doesn\'t require an object, whereas the English equivalent does - I guess that makes it a bit confusing.
