What is EPI® or percutaneous intratissue electrolysis?
Percutaneous Intratissue Electrolysis (EPI®) is an invasive physiotherapy technique that consists of the ultrasound-guided application of a galvanic current through an acupuncture-type needle that produces a local inflammatory process allowing phagocytosis and repair of the affected soft tissue (tendon, ligament, muscle, etc.) with subsequent analgesia. The galvanic electric current and the mechanical stimulation of the needle itself constitute physical agents in the therapeutic field of physiotherapy.
