German term

ohne Stufe

German to English Medical Medical (general) ENT
This one is tough, for ENT docs (any out there?).

ENT findings:

"Reizloser äußerer Gehörgang mit reizfreier Haut, ohne Stufe. Trommelfell intakt, spiegelnd.

What structure or phenomenon are they referring to?

Discussion

Lirka (asker) Feb 12, 2022:
I am wondering, though, whether this "Stufe" thingie refers to the surface or perhaps the color or any other feature (could be a transition between XX to YY). Yes, uyuni, I remember this term from other contexts, but was not sure if it fit here... still not 100% sure.
Lirka (asker) Feb 12, 2022:
Drawing on Dr CK's answer, I am thinking of going with the following:
"External auditory canal without signs of inflammation, including the skin, and without a step-off. Tympanic membrane intact and translucent.

(NB "irritation" is usually not used in this
context in En)

I am not an ENT aficionado, but the presence of a step-off in the external auditory canal may be associated with temporal bone fractures.

Fractures originating through the external canal will usually present with bloody otorrhea, a torn tympanic membrane, and a bony canal step-off.
