Inicialmente se realizó un muestro (sic) por propósito con la finalidad de lograr una muestra heterogénea de cuidadores en cuanto a edad y sexo del cuidador, parentesco con la persona cuidada y estado de salud y nivel de dependencia del familiar a su cargo.

I'm guessing "muestro" is a typo for "muestreo. There appear to be many example of this latter form but I can't see an explanation...
