Dutch term

sjorder

Dutch to English Other Ships, Sailing, Maritime
It refers to a man who has had several jobs in the maritime world. He had been a "sjorder, checker, maar ook als chauffeur...."

I'd appreciate any suggestions. I only found 'sjorren' which means 'lash, seize' and doesn't fit the context.

Thanks in advance for your help!

agree Neil Cross : May sound a bit rum (Royal Navy joke!), but I think "lasher" is correct; see http://www.pmanet.org/?cmd=main.content&id_content=214258676... etc.
