Het gaat om ammoniak-productie (zie http://www.periodieksysteem.com/elem_nl.cfm?IDE=H ) Daarbij onstaat ergens het giftige, niet gewenste gas koolmonoxide (CO), dat wordt verwijderd door samenvoeging met waterstof (H2): CO + 3H2 > H2O + CH4. In de volgende octrooiaanvraag is er sprake van verschillende soorten kolommen:

Ik denk dat het begrip rectificatiekolom overeenkomt met het gebruik hier. Het wijst namelijk op een afspliten (stripping) in verschillende elementen (wat de functie is van een rectificatiekolom, zoals deze ook in andere toepassingen wordt gebruikt).
