English term

Eastings

English to Greek Tech/Engineering Electronics / Elect Eng Radio Propagation and radio coverage
Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM)
UTM coordinates are completely metric coordinates and define a location on
earth by Easting and Northing (E and N). Coordinates are based on latitude and
longitude, however, the distance scale does not change.
The earth is divided into 60 vertical Zones around the equator. Each zone has a
longitude width of 6º. Zones are sequentially numbered from west to east,
beginning at the 180º meridian of longitude in the Pacific Ocean. A UTM
coordinate will always quote the zone number.
Eastings are measured in metres east of a specific zone boundary. Northings
are measured in metres north or south of the equator. Note also that the zone
will be followed by a letter. Letters are assigned every 8º moving north from 80º
South Latitude, beginning with letter “C” (Letters I and O are omitted). The
equator is at “N”, Canadian locations may be at “T”, “U” or “V”.

τετμημένη

This term reffers to the cartesian coordinate system. Thus,
the term Eastings corresponds to τετμημένη and Northing to τεταγμένη.
Example sentence:

Η τετμημένη είναι η απόσταση του σημείου από τον άξονα y και η τεταγμένη είναι η απόσταση του σημείου από τον άξονα x

Peer comment(s):

agree Nick Lingris : Often the English terms are used instead in order to show that the measurements belong to the specific system (UTM). I think that Τετμημένες should be followed by Eastings in brackets and the same for Τεταγμένες (Northings).
