Στις ΗΠΑ έχεις φόρο εισοδήματος που δηλώνεις σε πόλη, σε πολιτεία και μετά και σε ομοσπονδιακό επίπεδο (> city, state, federal income tax).
Η αντιστάθμιση σημαίνει ότι κάποιος πλήρωνε μάλλον με κουπόνια εισοδήματος και όταν ήρθε τέλος έτους και έκανε την ετήσια δήλωση αφαιρέθηκε (ή θα είχε δικαίωμα να αφαιρέσει) το φόρο που πλήρωσε ήδη
