corporate video production
In a proposal for the production of a corporate video, this is being offered as an optional extra on the budget. It seems as if the basic production involves the use of copyright-free music, and this next-up option involves spending a little more to allow use of 'musique de genre', which might, for example, be chosen from the Universal Music Publishing on-line catalogue.
The next option on the list, slightly more expensive still, is to have music specially composed and recorded; and the final option, most expensive of all, is to use well-known mainstream music with high added value — and pay correspondingly high synchronisation rights!
I can't find an exact definition anywhere, though 'gnere music' does seem to exist in EN; I was considering 'library music' or 'mood music', but both of these seem to have other translations available, and in any case, the basic option (= copyright-free music) really already equates to one category of library music (i.e. the kind you buy outright for unlimited subsequent use)
Can anyone throw any light on this for me, please? (rather urgent!)

generic music
this is often a phrase I hear in relation to film soundtrack.
In the sense of the definition:
characteristic of or relating to a class or group of things; not specific
having no brand name; not protected by a registered trademark

i.e. not something tailor made but kind of "off the shelf"

that comes with the publishing rights (i.e. making the differential from copyright free)

Comment: "Thanks, SMcG!
This was the best answer to fit my context.
I believe that 'mood music' and 'library music' are UK terms, while 'stock music' seems to be a more US term."

classical music
There's the expression music genre which means music style but it's a totally different thing, and I think in this case "musique de genre" means classical music.
Note from asker:
Thanks, for your contirbution, but I'm afraid 'genre' doesn't mean specifically 'classical' (at least not in my document) |

One site (url below) offers to:
Download Royalty-Free Music and Background Music
Just a suggestion - not sure how it fits in with "genre"

Note from asker:
Thanks, Pablo! I think in my case this term might have proved confusing; the function of this music is 'background music', certainly — but that term wouldn't be really clear here in describing the type of music itself. |

muzak
Not sure whether this would be the term for the cheapest option or the next one up - the one in question.

Note from asker:
Thanks, Sheila, for your contribution! As Ann says, 'muzak' is a very specific type of 'background music', not applicable to film/video soundtracks (BTW, it is also a proprietary name!) |

Travelin Ann
: AKA elevator music, Muzak is/was piped into businesses and would not be used for corporate videos

You may be right, Ann. I wasn't very confident about the answer.
