I'd love to know the film they're talking about.

Cult, for me, also means a little leftfield, maybe kooky, not mainstream, that kind of thing, so your clue there is "l'oeuvre la plus étrange".

agree Tony M : Plausible! F and V are often interchanged in oral usage, cf. 'bon annif'

I vaguely remembered that from Eng Lang at Uni, so looked it up. Voiced and unvoiced consonants. I think actually, here, the author got it wrong. Unless voice recognition tech is involved too... Oh dear.
agree philgoddard : I think it's Tim Burton's Mars Attacks. You could also say "space oddity".

Thanks Phil! Yes, that film fits the bill, and I'm sure Burton has fans in France.
agree FPC : Also OVNI or OFNI could mean the same in this context. Ovni is used in general, ofni with "f" being more spcific to cinema https://www.courrierinternational.com/article/gastronomie-le...

Thanks FPC! I think that when the term "OFNI" is so commonly used, then that must be the term the author (or speaker) intended to use.
agree Samuël Buysschaert : Agree with what have been said above, I like this movie and this filmmaker "We come in peace" in Mars Attacks! aha :)
