French term

mandrin

French to English Tech/Engineering Food & Drink Product description
Hello all,
This comes from a product list from a manufacturer who produces equipment for the baking industry.
Grignette Violette
Utilisation: pour mandrin - scarification mécanique.
A grignette seems to be a tool for slashing dough before baking, I gather this one is used as a part of a factory production process where the bread is slashed automatically. Have found various translations of mandrin, I'm not sure which one applies here. Thanks for any help!

Looks very similar to the part in my link
Anne Greaves (asker) Oct 2, 2012:
As far as I can tell from the picture, the grignettes are fitted into a row of "holders" positioned over the bread on the conveyor belt. You should be able to find the picture if you google my entry.

Follow-up You might have to ask the client if it's Phil's mandrel or my chuck. Either is possible, though I'm now more inclined to agree with Phil on mandrel.
claude-andrew Oct 1, 2012:
Suggestion I'd guess that "pour mandrin" means "chuck-fitting" i.e. the "grignette" is fitted to the power unit by inserting it in a chuck, like the drill bit in a drill chuck or a chisel in a perforator.
Anne Greaves (asker) Oct 1, 2012:
Thanks Phil, that was a different context I believe. Will investigate your suggestion.

There are several previous questions about this word (including one by Anne) in the glossary - I don't know whether they're relevant. Mandrel would be my guess.
