Yes, thanks, so it says here, later in the text: "...refuges d’abbayes. Ceux-ci étaient destinés à sécuriser les religieux en cas de conflits ou pour permettre à l’abbé de résider luxueusement à Mons lorsque des réunions se tenaient en ville. C’était également un endroit où il était parfois plus aisé de soigner les religieux malades. Les refuges permettaient aussi de mettre à l’abri des convoitises certains trésors des abbayes lorsque les troubles rendaient les campagnes moins sûres."
