Q: Premature rupture of fetal membranes...
My sister-in-law is 33 weeks into her first pregnancy. Yesterday her waters broke and she is now in the antenatal ward at the hospital, where they say that the baby is still alright. But I am very worried for both of them. What sort of problems might she have and is there a risk to her baby?
Sam
Dr Trisha Macnair responds
It\'s understandable that you\'re worried but at 33 weeks the chances are that the baby and your sister-in-law will not come to any great harm.

Why do waters break in pregnancy?
