I think this works, and is also rhymes with "fact" on the line below, if you're translating in rhyme.

and every agreement should be laid to rest

Belcore thought that Adina would marry him, and that Nemorino had accepted the money to enlist (so that Belcore had got rid of an inconvenient rival), but now that Adina loves Nemorino neither agreement was going to be kept.
