Japanese term

書道部

Japanese to English Art/Literary Cinema, Film, TV, Drama
Dear ProZ members,

I have a cartoon whose main characters are part of the JASDF. In a scene they are in a JASDF dormitory and there is a poster on the wall saying 書道部.

I was wondering: do they have clubs in JASDF like in high schools and such? Or is that 部 referring to something else? Would "calligraphy club" be an appropriate translation here?

Thank you very much!

calligraphy club

It's not surprising for them to have a calligraphy club. Even some companies have clubs where employees participate after work.
