Actually the general public won't know or even notice the the difference from a boiled sweet, but,unlike the conventional hard boiled sweet, deposited candy involves a more scientifically tempered process of placing the material or sweet paste with all the colours and flavour into moulds.

I believe that I have heard the term "caramelized residue' from watching some cooking programs in the US.
