Texto orixe - Czech Vánoční Rondel
Už opět přichází ten čas
- a navrací se stále znova,
kdy temno noci probil jas
božího vtěleného Slova.
Zvěst stará, každým rokem nová,
že Bůh sestoupil mezi nás,
nabývá tvaru, zvuku zas
- a navrací se stále znova.
»Ať temno zloby, zášti mráz
propálí zvěst ta nadčasová,
Ať padnou pouta Adamova,
sobecká mezi lidmi hráz ... «
tak každým rokem volá hlas
- a navrací se stále znova.

That time of year, that day of days
- always returning, ever fresh,
when the dark night was split, ablaze
by God's Word made incarnate, flesh.
An ancient tale, each year afresh,
that God came down to share our ways,
takes form again, intoning, plays
- always returning, ever fresh.
»Let the news melt hate's icy gaze
scorch ill-will dark to cinders, dash
the bonds of Adam, tear this mesh,
these walls of greed, our human maze ... «
the Call perennial rends the haze
- always returning, ever fresh.

Texto orixe - Czech Konec léta
Proud řeky tiše kontempluje den
ponořen v zeleného ohně stěny:
Je mezi nimi stejně potopen,
jako jsou stromy do něj potopeny.
Bělavá hlava děcka září z nich:
nabírá vody, stojíc na kameni.
Jak dávných mrtvých odpoutaný smích
pablesky světla na vodě se mění.
Průhlednost stínů sládne závratí,
jinotvář věcí trvá mezi nimi.
Až vzhůru k nebi srdce zvedá ti,
jež plane mezi pruhy oblačnými.
Moci teď zemřít, proměnit se v nic,
ztratit se mezi stromy, co tu rostou -
a moci říc´ - ne, neříkat už nic
ve chvíli jasnou, světelnou a prostou.

Musing, the River’s course reflects the day
Engulfed in walls of verdifluent flame
Reciprocally immersed in mutual sway
As trees are drawn to drown in its own game.
A blond-haired child’s head glowing all it’s worth
Stone-perched to draw fresh water from the flow;
Like long-gone dead men’s disembodied mirth
The changeling glimpses glint light’s watery show.
Transparent shadows, sweet with vertigo
Liquid with fickle, constant, melting change
Your heart buoyed upward, floating, let it go,
Skyward, through clouds striated free to range.
To die right now, to vanish into nought,
Among the growing trees to disappear -
As if to say - no, leave the unvoiced thought,
This instant lucid, light, and simply clear.

TIS better to be vile then vile eſteemed,
When not to be, receiues reproach of being,
And the iuſt pleaſure loſt, which is ſo deemed,
Not by our feeling, but by others ſeeing.
For why ſhould others falſe adulterat eyes
Giue ſalutation to my ſportiue blood?
Or on my frailties why are frailer ſpies;
Which in their wils count bad what I think good?
Noe, I am that I am, and they that leuell
At my abuſes, reckon vp their owne,
I may be ſtraight though they them-ſelues be beuel
By their rancke thoughtes, my deedes muſt not be ſhown
Vnleſſe this generall euill they maintaine,
All men are bad and in their badneſſe raigne.

Je lépe zlosyn být, než za zlosyna,
když, nebýt takým, beztak hanu sklidí,
vzat nárok na radost, když ta je braná
ne jak náš cit dá, leč jak druzí vidí.
Pročpak by cizí, cizoložné oči,
uvítat měly moji bujnou krev?
Či po mých chybách slídit slabší stačí,
volí-li za zlé brát mých kladů zjev?
Jsem, který jsem, a ti co míří na mě
místo mých závad cení vlastní pouze,
rovný jsem, měřen křivým metrem klamně,
skrz vadné soudy nic než neodsouzen;
Leda, že zlo své mají za zlé všem,
co muž, to zlo, panují tak-že-zlem.
