Source text - English At this moment the brave and dedicated #OccupyWallStreetprotesters are in the streets of New York and cities around the world. They call the world‘s attention to Wall Street greed and corruption as a common source of the many crises that threaten the human future—economic, political, social, and environmental. This is a defining moment for America. It is our country‘s version of the uprisings occurring around the world. It is a ray of hope for democracy and real prosperity in America and beyond. Contrary to the Wall Street propaganda, Wall Street is a job killer, not a job creator. Wall Street banks and corporations have no interest in creating jobs, educating American children, or assuring that Americans have health care and retirement security. They appeal for ever more tax breaks and regulatory relief only to have yet more money to use as they used their taxpayer provided bailout: to increase executive bonuses, pay dividends, buy other companies, buy back their own stock to increase the value of their stock options, buy political favor, create new financial bubbles, and outsource yet more jobs. Wall Street cloaks itself in the American flag to gain public favor, but offshores its profits to avoid paying its share of America‘s upkeep— leaving it to the .little people. to pay for the public infrastructure on which Wall Street profits depend. Its relationship to America is that of an alien occupier who comes only to extract, not to build. The ruckus about the budget deficit is a typical Wall Street inspired and funded political diversion. Americais far from broke. Our problem is too much money in the wrong places – unjust but profitable wars, corporate bailouts, and CEO bonuses to name a few. Wall Street banks and corporations are sitting on record amounts of idle cash in the trillions of dollars. Their highest return investments are in the politicians who favor them with public subsidies, tax breaks, and freedom from public oversight. Ordinary people all across America are rising up to expose Wall Street‘s deceptions and reclaim their country from this alien occupier. The Declaration of the Occupation of New York Cityenumerates Wall Street‘s crimes against people, country, nature, and the world. The personal stories emerging from Occupy Wall Street document our common experience under Wall Street‘s rule—unemployment, wages that cannot support families, dwindling retirement accounts, foreclosed homes, student debt, and deferred health care. These stories are inspiring yet more Americans to come forward. There is also the quiet—but powerful—protest of the millions of Americans who are putting their shoulders to the wheel of change by building the new community-rooted, market-based, life-serving Main Street economies we need for a 21st century America that provides secure, adequate dignified, and meaningful livelihoods for all in a balanced relationship to nature. The corporate media are obsessed with the question: .What do the Occupy Wall Street protesters want? What is their demand?. It should be obvious. They want their economy, their government, and their country back from the alien occupiers. As our forebears liberated America from rule by a distant king and the British East India Company, the time has come to liberate America from Wall Street and reclaim the power Wall Street has
usurped. It is time to establish democracy in America and build a national system of Main Street economies owned and accountable to people who have an inherent interest in building healthy communities with thriving local economies and healthy natural environments for themselves and their children. By the calendar it‘s autumn, but for many it is the beginning of the American Spring.
Translation - Dutch Terwijl ik dit schrijf zijn er in de straten van New York en vele andere steden op de wereld moedige en toegewijde #occupywallstreet demonstranten te vinden. Zij vragen aandacht voor de hebzucht en corruptie van Wall Street datheeft geleid tot de vele crisissen die de toekomst van de mensheid op het spel zetten. Zowel op Economisch, politiek en sociaal vlak, maar ook de natuur leidt er onder. Het heden waar we ons in bevinden is een vormend moment voor Amerika. Deze opstand is de Amerikaanse variant van de opstanden die wereldwijd plaatsvinden, met name in het midden oosten. Deze opstand geeft een straaltje hoop voor democratie en eerlijke welvaart in Amerika en de rest van de wereld.
In tegenstelling tot de Wall Street propaganda creëert Wall Street geen banen, maar neemt zij ze juist af. De banken en bedrijven van Wall Street hebben totaal geen interesse in het creëren van banen, de opleiding van Amerikaanse kinderen, of het garanderen van gezondheidszorg en een pensioen. Wall Street lobbiet constant voor belastingvoordelen en verminderde regelgeving zodat er meer geld vrijkomt om te investeren. Wall street gebruikt het geld van de belastingbetaler om meer bonussen te kunnen financieren, meer dividend uit te kunnen betalen, meer bedrijven op te kunnen kopen , om eigen aandelen terug te kopen zodat de waarde van de aandelenopties omhoog gaan, om de politiek te beïnvloeden, om nieuwe financiële bubbels te creëren en om meer banen uit te besteden.
Wall Street schuilt onder de Amerikaanse vlag om bij het publiek te scoren, maar sluist haar winsten naar het buitenland om belasting te omzeilen. Zij laten de hard werkende mens liever opdraaien voor de infrastructuur waar Wall Street van afhankelijk is. De relatie tussen Wall Street en Amerika is te vergelijken met dat van een buitenaards ras dat zich op aarde heeft genesteld en onze materialen steelt, maar zelf niet bijdraagt aan de bouw van de planeet.
De heisa van het begrotingstekort is een typisch door Wall Street geïnspireerde en gefinancierde politieke afleiding. Amerika is namelijk verre van blut. Het probleem ligt hem in het feit dat er teveel geld in de verkeerde dingen gestoken is. Denk aan moreel onverantwoorde maar winstmakende oorlogen, financiële hulp aan bedrijven en bedrijfsbonussen om er maar een paar te noemen. De banken en bedrijven van Wall Street bezitten triljoenen aan niet-geïnvesteerd geld. Het grootste rendement van Wall Street zit hem in de politici die hen subsidies en belasting voordelen verschaffen, bovendien vind de politiek het prima als Wall Street niet zo transparant is naar de buitenwereld.
Mensen door heel Amerika staan nu op om het bedrog van Wall Street bloot te stellen en hun land terug te eisen van deze buitenaardse bezetter. De verklaring van de bezetting van New York City somt de misdaden van Wall Street op tegen de mens, het land, de natuur en de planeet. De verhalen die verteld worden tijdens de bezetting van Wall Street zijn het bewijs van onze algemene ervaring
met Wall Street. Werkloosheid, salarissen die families niet kunnen onderstenen, slinkende pensionen, gedwongen verkoop van huizen, studenten met schulden en de uitstelling van algemene gezondheidszorg. Deze voorbeelden zijn inspirerend voor meer Amerikanen om met hun verhaal te komen.
Er is ook een stil maar krachtig protest gaande van miljoenen Amerikanen die hun handen ineenslaan en vechten voor verandering. Dit doen zij door de ‘’Main Street‘‘ economie te stimuleren, deze marktvorm heeft zijn wortels in de gemeenschap liggen, is op de markt gebaseerd en doet dienst voor de mens. Deze marktvorm is nodig voor een Amerika in de 21e eeuw dat mensen van een veilig, waardig en betekenisvol levensonderhoud wil voorzien, dit alles in een evenwichtige relatie met de natuur. De republikeinse media is geobsedeerd met de vraag ‘’Wat willen de bezetters van Wall Street? Wat zijn hun eisen? ‘’ Dit zou duidelijk moeten zijn. Zij willen hun economie, hun overheid en hun land terug van de buitenaardse bezetters.
Zoals de eerste kolonisten Amerika bevrijd hebben van de Engelse koning en de Britse Oost-Indische compagnie, is het nu tijd om Amerika te bevrijden van Wall Street. Het is tijd om democratie te gebruiken in Amerika. Er moet een nationaal systeem van Main Street economieën opgezet worden, verantwoord door de mensen die daadwerkelijk geïnteresseerd zijn in het bouwen van gezonde gemeenschappen met bloeiende economieën en een gezonde natuurlijke omgeving voor henzelf en hun kinderen. Op de kalender staat de herfst aangegeven, maar voor vele is dit het begin van het Amerikaanse voorjaar.

Source text - Dutch Lissabon: van de Bairro Alto en de Alfama tot Belém en Sintra De mooiste uitzichten, de smalste steegjes, historische trams en een moderne metro, de langste brug, nostalgische cafés en hypermoderne winkelcentra... je vindt het allemaal in Lissabon, een stad vol contrasten waar je met gemak een week kunt doorbrengen zonder je te vervelen. De Portugese hoofdstad is dankzij het milde klimaat ook in de winter een ideale bestemming voor een stedentrip, en als de hitte 's zomers te groot wordt, dan zijn het Atlantische strand van Estoril en Cascais en de heuvels van Sintra vlakbij om verkoeling te bieden. Lissabon is een stad om urenlang in rond te dwalen. In de wirwar van steegjes in de historische wijk Alfama ontdek je steeds weer nieuwe doorkijkjes, pittoreske barretjes en waan je je af en toe in een dorp; loop je heuvelopwaarts, dan word je beloond met schitterend uitzichten vanaf een van de vele miradouros van de stad. Steeds zie je de Taag in de verte, overspannen door de majestueuze Ponte 25 de Abril, de bijna 2,5 km lange hangbrug die in de jaren '60 gebouwd werd en aanvankelijk Ponte Salazar heette, naar de Portugese dictator. Vanwege de forse hoogteverschillen en de vele stegen met traptreden kan lopen nogal vermoeiend zijn; gelukkig zijn tram, bus of metro zelden ver uit de buurt.

Lisbon has plenty to offer, from beautiful views to narrow picturesque streets, historic trams, a modern subway system, a beautiful bridge, nostalgic cafés and state of the art shopping malls. This beautiful city is full of contrasts and you can easily spend a week here without getting bored. The Portuguese capital is the perfect destination for a winter city trip thanks to its mild climate. If you visit Lisbon during the summer months and you find yourself a little overwhelmed by the heat, the beaches of Estoril or Cascais and the hills of Sintra can offer you some much needed refreshment.
Lisbon is a city where you can stroll around for hours. The numerous medieval style alleys in the district of Alfama is home to new exciting experiences and plentiful picturesque pubs. You will feel like you’re walking around in a small village rather than a big city. When you walk uphill to one of the many miradouro you will be rewarded with the most beautiful of views. You will see the river Tagus in the distance, crossed by the beautiful Ponte 25 de Abril bridge. This suspension bridge is over 2.5 kilometres long and was built in the 60’s. This bridge was originally named the Ponte Salazar, after the Portuguese dictator. The many stair-filled alleys and intense height differences can make travelling by foot a rather exhausting experience. Luckily there is always a tram, bus or subway close by.
