“太阳驱动”项目发起人、瑞士探险家贝特朗•皮卡尔说，这次夜间飞行极具象征意义，验证了仅靠太阳能驱动完成飞机夜间飞行的可行性。
“太阳驱动”翼展长度为６３．４米，上面安装有１．２万对太阳能电池板，为飞机上总重达４００公斤的４个蓄电池充电。
“太阳驱动”的大小与空客Ａ３４０型飞机相当，而重量只有１６００公斤，仅相当于一辆普通小汽车。飞机用超轻碳纤维材料制成，为减轻飞机重量，驾驶基本是机械操纵，没有使用大量电子设备，甚至连机身都是贴薄膜，没有涂油漆。
“太阳驱动”于４月７日首次试飞，此次２６小时昼夜试飞成功后，下一步将进行３６小时无燃料连续飞行。

Bertrand Piccard, initiator and President of the Solar Impulse project, said that the night flight was very symbolic. He said it proved that solar-powered aircraft could fly during night periods.
The wings of Solar Impulse have a span of 63.4 meters, on which are installed 12’000 pairs of solar panels which charge the 4 batteries, these weighing 400 KG in total.
The wing span of the plane are equivalent to those of an Airbus 340, but the weight is only 1600 KG, about that of a small car. The craft is made of carbon fibres to lessen the weight and the piloting system is mechanical. There is very little electronic equipment and the body is treated with a film rather than painted, to reduce the weight.
The first trial flight of Solar Impulse was the 7 April. After the present success, just completed and reported here, of 26 hours of night and day flight, it is planned as a next stage that the plane will fly 36 hours continuous flight without fuel.

Cela pose deux problèmes. Le premier est de parvenir à un juste équilibre entre la défense de la santé des consommateurs et le protectionnisme. Le deuxième, qui concerne les pays pauvres, tient à ce qu'il est très difficile de se conformer aux normes internationales.
