MT 101: Medical Translation – Multiple translation content and formats
Course summary
Description Medical translation will be described in terms of the diverse types of content, branches, target audiences and means of disclosure. Medical communication is a multidimensional network of restrained or expanded groups which communicate among themselves and with the “outer world” - the resulting discourses are widely different, based on the type of content, format, the people who produce the information and their intended recipients, communicational purposes, way of communication (oral or written), jargon, genre, among others. Translator’s awareness on such contextual information is key to convey information effectively. This presentation will cover most of these aspects in a quick-view format, so that attendees can have a reference fact-sheet at hand when dealing with medical translations.
