FORMATION CPO
Jonathan Dumont, a native of Niagara Falls, Ontario, enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces in January 1981 as an Electronic Warfare Operator (EW). He was remustered to NESOP in 1985 as part of the Navy’s MORPs project. Following Basic Training in CFRS Cornwallis and trade training in Halifax he was posted to Esquimalt B.C. From 1981 to 1990 were he served aboard HMCS Ships RESTIGOUCHE twice, SASKATCHEWAN and MACKENZIE.
In 1989 he was promoted to PO2 and from 1990-1992 he served in Fleet School Esquimalt before being posted to HMCS ANNAPOLIS. While aboard HMCS ANNAPOLIS he successfully completed his Above Water Warfare Course and was promoted to PO1 in 1993 and was subsequently posted to HMCS CALGARY as part of the commissioning crew.
He was promoted to CPO2 in 1996 and was posted to MARPACHQ as Staff Officer Electronic Warfare. In 1998 he was posted back to sea in Fleet Operations then to Sea Training in 1999. In 2000 he was promoted to his current rank and posted to Athena as the Unit CPO. He was invested as a Member of the Order of Military Merit in the fall of 2001.
He was appointed the Coxswain of HMCS PROTECTEUR in December 2001 where he completed a deployment to Operation APOLLO, Canada’s commitment to the War on Terror. He was subsequently posted to Sea Training as Coxswain in the fall of 2003. He was selected for his first senior appointment as Canadian Fleet Pacific Fleet Chief in March 2007 until June 2010. On completion of second language training he assumed his current post as Maritime Forces Pacific and Joint Task Force Pacific Chief Petty Officer 28 June 2011.
He is married and lives with his wife and their five children in Victoria, British Columbia.
Translation - English Jonathan Dumont est originaire de Niagara Falls, en Ontario. Il s'enrôle dans les Forces armées canadiennes en janvier 1981 comme Opérateur Guerre électronique (OP G ÉLEC). Il est reclassé OP DEM en 1985 dans le cadre du projet ERPNOM de la Marine. Après l’instruction élémentaire à l’ERFC Cornwallis et son instruction professionnelle à Halifax, il est affecté à Esquimalt en Colombie-Britannique de 1981 à 1990 où il sert deux fois à bord du NCSM Restigouche, ainsi qu’à bord des NCSM Saskatchewan et Mackenzie.
En 1989, il est promu Pm 2 et sert de 1990 à 1992 à l'École navale des Forces canadiennes à Esquimalt, avant d'être affecté au NCSM Annapolis. À bord de ce dernier, il réussit le cours de guerre de surface et est promu m 1 en 1993 pour ensuite être affecté au NCSM Calgary dans le cadre de l’équipage de mise en service.
Il est promu Pm 2 en 1996 et est envoyé au QG FMAR(P) à titre d’Officier d'état-major – Guerre électronique. En 1998, il est réaffecté en mer aux opérations de la flotte, puis à l'Entraînement maritime en 1999. En 2000, il est promu à son grade actuel et muté à Athena comme premier maître de l'unité. Il est investi en tant que membre de l'Ordre du mérite militaire à l'automne 2001.
Il est nommé capitaine d'armes du NCSM Protecteur en décembre 2001, à bord duquel il effectue le déploiement de l'Opération Apollo, la contribution du Canada dans la guerre au terrorisme. Il est ensuite affecté à l'Entraînement maritime comme capitaine d'armes à l'automne 2003. Il est nommé à son premier poste supérieur à titre de chef de la Flotte Canadienne du Pacifique, fonction qu’il occupe de mars 2007 à juin 2010. Après avoir terminé sa formation en langue seconde, il est nommé le 28 juin 2011 à son poste actuel de Premier maître des Forces maritimes du Pacifique et de la Force opérationnelle interarmées du Pacifique.
Il est marié et vit avec sa femme et leurs cinq enfants à Victoria, en Colombie-Britannique.

A passionate sailor, my military career has allowed me to travel all over the world.
From home here in Victoria, BC to the Far East, I’m serving my country’s Navy as a Marine Electrician. It was only natural for me to become a translator, being capable of communicating in both French and English.

A partir de mon port d’attache ici, à Victoria, Colombie-Britannique jusqu’en Extrême-Orient , je suis au service de la Marine de mon pays comme Électricien de Marine. Il était donc tout à fait naturel que je devienne traducteur, étant capable de communiquer tant en français qu’en anglais.
Parlant nos deux langues officielles couramment , je traduis des documents de toutes les niches professionnelles, qu'ils soient rédigés dans la langue de Molière ou celle de Shakespeare.
