Due to my personal history -and my luck- I began having contact with other cultures very young, at the age of 5, when my parents enrolled me in a German school. This was something exceptional in Mexico, and more in my ci...ty, Querétaro, as English was only beginning to become an important language to be taught and learned at school. I say I've been a translator forever because soon enough I began telling my friends and relatives phrases and their meanings, not only in German, but then in English, and afterwards in French. I've been lucky to travel to countries where all those languages are spoken, and I was always the "translator" for relatives, friends and other travelers whenever directions were needed, or when someone wanted so find "something to give to XYZ" or "a rare (whatever) I was told they do here", etc. Before doing my major in journalism, teaching languages came quite naturally: I could earn some pesos which would allow me to spend a bit more in parties, clothes and some other things a girl wants when being at the university. I became involved in an NGO and had the opportunity to attend a UNO event, where I realized how much prejudice and misunderstanding there was even where people spoke the same language. So I studied a Diploma in Interpretation and Translation and then became an expert translator authorized by the Supreme Court of the state. I combine interpretation and translation with language teaching, the languages being French, English and Spanish, the latter mostly for expats being on some work project in Mexico. My goal has always been communication and mutual understanding, both in the similarities as human beings and the differences that enrich intercultural relationships.
