I am translating a document for children and they use "Your eyes were bigger than your stomach" (it means that you took more than you could eat) as an example in an exercise. Is there a Spanish "refran" that could be used, or should it be translated?

Hay una expresión que usan los franceses; dicen “tener los ojos más grandes que el estómago”. Cuando usted se pide un bife de chorizo de 800 grs., claro, no lo puede comer. Los ojos fueron más grandes que el estómago. Y eso es lo que nos está pasando.
