French term

qu'au delà de ce qui n'a pas été prévu par

French to English Law/Patents General Terms of Sale
"Néanmoins, ce droit ne sera applicable qu'au-delà de ce qui n'a pas été prévu par les présentes Conditions Générales de Vente."

This is under the heading: Applicable Law - Language - Currency

"ces relations" refers to a contractual relationship between the company/customer.

"ce droit" refers to the applicable law (French law/law of France)

Have started out with "Nevertheless, this law shall only apply (to this relationship)...already sounds awkward! The rest of the sentence seems quite tangled to me...HELP! Need a nice concise way of putting this...

Discussion

Non-ProZ.com Jul 30, 2003:
SORRY *** I left out " ces relations" in the original sentence, should read:
"....ce droit ne sera applicable A CES RELATIONS qu'au del...". Do you think I can leave it out in the translation?

or shall apply only to those relations not provided for by these conditions of sale.

I would need to see preceding and following sentence to choose between these two versions.

in case the current sales contract fails to address the necessary terms and contingencies

Nevertheless, this legal right shall only apply in case (or to the extent that) the current sales contract fails to address/define the necessary terms and contingencies.

As I understand it, the terms of the contract take precedence, and this back-up law only applies when certain circumstances arise which the terms of the contract have failed to anticipate.
