Spanish term

desagüe de fondo

Spanish to English Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering Dams
This term "desagüe de fondo" appears many times throughout this document describing the various projects of a Spanish company that does large industrial hydraulics projects including dams and pumping stations. My term suggestions are undersluice and bottom drain, but I am having trouble finding English parallel texts using either term, so I thought I'd ask for your suggestions.

Here are several instances where this term appears:
- Suministro, prefabricación y montaje de nuevo tramo de desagüe de fondo de diámetro 1.800 mm en acero al carbono

- Sustitución de los elementos mecánicos y de accionamiento de los dos aliviaderos, los desagües de fondo y los desagües intermedios.

- Suministro e instalación de las compuertas de la toma de fondo de bombeo principal del embalse

Thank you for your help

under sluice / undersluice

Your term appears as "undersluice" in one of my glossaries, but I don't know the origin of the entry, so I searched both terms together and found this:

Under sluice, desagüe o aliviadero de fondo, galería de evacuación

It also appears here (as "under sluice"):

I find it hilariously appropriate, that YOU should interpret “bottom” that way! (Thanks for the morning chuckle.)

Under floor drainage system
Where the geotechnical investigations report identifies the need for under floor
drainage, design of the under floor drainage system shall include drain layout
partitioned to assist location of reservoir leakage. Partitioned under floor drains
shall separately discharge to the dechlorination pit. Work as executed drawings
shall record the location of partitions in the under floor drainage and identify the
partition location and the underfloor drainage pipe connected to the respective
partition.

The scour is an outlet pipe or tunnel that runs through the bottom of the dam. It is usually large because of its uses.

The scour can be used in an emergency, for example, when a dam is damaged and poses a threat of imminent collapse. It can be opened to let water out of the reservoir very quickly.

The scour is also opened to flush sediment out of a reservoir when too much has collected behind the dam. The fast flowing water carries the sediment through the scour and downstream.

Valves or gates are used to control the flow of water through the scour.

There are two 1066/900mm scour pipes with 900mm valves (1 sluice valve and 1 Larner Johnson) on each pipe discharging onto the floor of the tunnel at the base of the shaft.

If you spot a serious problem at your dam, it’s often a good idea to lower the water level in the reservoir so that pressure on the embankment is reduced, and any leakage/seepage flows reduce or stop. Before doing this you must seek professional advice. The simplest and cheapest way to do this is to open the low level scour (or bottom outlet) valve, if your reservoir has one.
