German term

bedarfsorientiert

German to English Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general)
Hello

The German headline is

Flexibel und bedarfsorientiert

from a flyer promoting the services of a civil defense organisation that can respond to natural catastrophes such as earthquakes and floods.

I need a better solution than "demand-oriented", but it has to be roughly the same length as the German word for layout reasons.

Thank you

Discussion

Craig Meulen (asker) Aug 25, 2006:
Hmmm, well, "specific" does mean that the assistance they provide is specific to the situation they find. So it is the same as "demand-led", isn't it?

And if you saw the 2-sentence paragraph that follows on this flyer, you would probably also define it as "wishy-washy" :-(

So the headline could be said to match the text!!
IanW (X) Aug 25, 2006:
Ye-es, but "Specific Assistance" doesn't really mean anything, does it? It just sounds wishy-washy to me - hardly the right note for a civil defence organisation.
Craig Meulen (asker) Aug 24, 2006:
@ Clare / Jane Not "on demand" - that sounds like they come when you call - which is also true - but the message here is that the assistance delivered is tailored to the specific needs of the situation.

demand-led

How about "demand-led"? I was about to suggest "demand driven" too, but I see that Steffen has already done so.

Business-oriented intermediaries can work with public agencies and service providers to develop and deliver demand-led services to employers.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks Ian, and thanks everyone. In fact, although I like several of the answers suggested, I actually devised another solution "Flexible and Specific Assistance" The reason - sometimes the old designer in me comes out and the capitalisation of "Demand-led" looks ugly!!"

demand-based

Marginally better than demand-oriented; otherwise I suppose you could just write round it and say "flexible services on demand" - if it fits!

I hesitated to offer this before, but after your comment maybe it would fit the bill? Or tailor-made?
