Von den 18 Landesgerichten befindet sich (unter anderem) eines in jeder Landeshauptstadt (für Vorarlberg in Feldkirch); sie sind neben den Bezirksgerichten Gerichte erster Instanz; in Handelssachen werden sie als Handelsgericht tätig bzw. in Wien das eigens eingerichtete Handelsgericht; für Arbeits- und Sozialrechtssachen als Arbeits- und Sozialgericht bzw. in Wien das Arbeits- und Sozialgericht; in Wien und Graz gibt es jeweils Landesgerichte für Zivilrechtssachen und für Strafsachen.
