Born in Ukraine but raised in Spain in a Russian family. Although my mother continued to teach me Russian with textbooks while I was at home, school and friends soon made Spanish to take over and becoming my mother tongue. Even as a child, I showed my interest in life sciences, feeling curious about every animal I saw (although insects, in particular, were my main fascination) and playing with microscopes, but at the same time, a strong bilingual culture was also growing in me, as the first rule in our house was to only speak Russian, even though the TV was in Spanish – until we installed a satellite TV with Russian channels when I became a teenager.
This double passion continued to grow in high school. I entered the bilingual programme of the high school, where I was taught English, French, and some subjects in French. Later, when I was given the opportunity, I chose the health sciences branch in high school and got my B1 in French, although later I left it behind.
I started my career by studying biology, where I came into contact with the scientific language in branches such as immunology, medicine, pharmacy and pharmacokinetics, microbiology, ecology, and nutrition. After graduating, I did an internship in biological pest control, where I learned more about insects and became very interested in the idea of translating scientific papers, so I decided to study a master’s degree in biomedical translation, but first I got a Certificate in Advanced English (C1).
Moreover, I am also very fond of sports (especially adventure sports) and nutrition, both in practice and in scientific theory. Video games are also one of my great passions, so I decided to expand my field in the world of translation and I am now taking a course in video game localisation.
