Mar 17, 2020 (posted via ProZ.com):  Working on a spec translation of the first chapter from a recent Naoki prize-winning novel. It's more for fun than anything else, but it would be great if the author takes me on as the translator. I'm also searching for an American manufacturing location for a Japanese apparel company. ...more »

Bio

Hello!

I am a language enthusiast with a background in English literature, linguistics, and law. After graduating with a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Chicago Law School in 2012, I chose to start a business rather than go into legal practice. Through online courses, I teach the LSAT (the admissions test for US, Canadian, and Australian law schools) as well as assist with the editing and composition of prospective students' admissions essays. My website may be viewed here: lawschooli.com

My true passion for the last 6 years, however, has been the Japanese language. I'm self-taught, having learned mostly through reading manga and novels (my favorite lately is ファーストラヴ), as well as through extended trips to Japan. In December 2018 I passed the JLPT N2 with a score above the 95th percentile. I plan to tackle the N1 this June.

For the last 9 months, I've been living in Tokyo. Among other things, I've been working at a bar in Nakameguro. It's the best way to learn everyday Japanese!

I'm confident that I can ably do translation work in a wide variety of specialties. My legal background allows me to confidently translate contracts or other legal documents, no matter how high the stakes.

Through owning my own business, I also have extensive experience in marketing materials and ad copy. I can also be relied on for academic and technical translation work.

I'm looking forward to working with you!

Evan
