Thank you for your interest! Nov 2, 2006

I would like for you to give me ideas about a place where we can get together for the Holiday Party: DC downtown, VA, MD. Also, how much money you are willing to spend.

Holiday Party Nov 10, 2006

Sounds like a good idea and I am definitely interested in joining NCATA luncheon. However, it think it would be nice to gather as a Proz.com group on a separate occasion. Depending on how many folks will sign up here, we can either have our own party in addition to the luncheon or just do the NCATA luncheon only.

Suggestion for location Nov 10, 2006

The last Powwow in DC was at Sesto Senso (Italian Restaurant) 1214 - 18th Street NW, Washington, DC 2 blocks south of the Dupont Circle Metro station. www.sesto.com.

suggestion for ordering Nov 10, 2006

actually I think the dinner at Sesto Senso (which was really good) was a prix fixe and everyone paid the same price (exlusive of drinks) but you had a choice of three or four entrees and appetizers, desserts, etc. This seems like a workable arrangment. But they are popular so I would make the reservation well in advance.

Holiday party Nov 13, 2006

Not sure how everybody feels about committing to a fixed menu and $$. I would still suggest simply going out to a specified place and there everybody is free to order whatever he or she wants in accordance with individual budgets and tastes. my suggestion is a Brasilian restaurant Bossa in Adams Morgan which has live music (we can dance!) and a very decent menu. I look forward to hearing other suggestions.

Dinner Nov 13, 2006

Brasilian sounds great to me. Do you know if they accept large group reservations and if they will allow us to split the bill?

Bossa Nova Nov 13, 2006

They accept reservations and they should allow us split the bill (I will double check on that, I know the owner). The place is a three story restaurant/lounge/dance place. Adams Morgan is a late night crowd place, so if we come in, say around 7:00 pm, it won't be crowded then and we can talk and socialize. They start performances later around 10:00 PM

Organization Nov 14, 2006

Yes. I did organize the last Powwow and it was lots of fun even though we had to reschedule due to a snow storm. I think we had close to 30 people show up. The initial reception and then dinner worked really well and gave a good chance to mix and mingle before settling down for dinner. 6:30pm might even work better for the mixer before the regular dinner crowd gets there and have the table reservation for 7:30pm.

restaurant Nov 14, 2006

I think Brazilian is a good idea; however, I still think Sesto Senso was a good value and offered lots of choices too. The prix fixe menu was offered to us as an OPTION, not a requirement for ordering so everyone would still have a choice of food. My concern about the Brazilian place is that if it is a dance club, then it will get really noisy, making it difficult to converse comfortably in a normal tone of voice.

Party Nov 23, 2006

Hello everyone,

I called Sesto Senso, they require minimum 40 people and $45 per person. Also a deposit in advance. I would still like to stay away from reserving a place and paying money in advance. Do you folks have any other ideas on where we can meet for drinks and dinner? My choice still remains Adams Morgan. If we meet there around 6:00, we'll still have plenty of time to socialize before it gets crowded and noisy.
