Does anyone know what a PDF writer is? This might sound like an obvious question but I'm not sure if Adobe Acrobat is a PDF Writer or whether it would be a separate package.

Hi, I'm not sure, if I grasped your question.
A PDF writer should be the same as a PDF converter, i.e. a type of software you can convert Word documents into PDF.
If you need a freeware have a look at this page:

Another one I use and which offers more features is PDF 995.

A PDF writer is, in effect, like a printer driver, except that the "printout" is a PDF file, not a piece of paper.
When you install the full version of Adobe Acrobat (not to be confused with the free Adobe Reader), there is a PDF writer included.

When you install the full version of Adobe Acrobat (not to be confused with the free Adobe Reader), there is a PDF writer included.
Adobe Reader by itself does not let you create PDF files from other formats (Word, Excel etc.)
The free utilities mentioned by me and other posters install a driver on your computer.
When you want to create a PDF file from your document, you must select the PDF creator (whichever one you have installed) as your "printer". Then you simply click "print" and you will get a PDF file out of your original document.
That's all there is to it.

Agree with Pawel, and when you need to edit the text on PDF document with simple graphics, try Adobe Designer version 7.0 or other versions.
I think it is easier to use this software to make text editing when you have a complete font types installed.
