....but were, past tense. Shoot me if I am wrong, but wasn't India a British colony? Isn't English still the lingua franca in India? Didn't the British (among with other powers) have a large influence in the Middle East? Do you know how all those nowaday states there came into existence? And about China, read your history.

Sorry, but I think you misunderstood me. All I wanted to say, is that English is the dominant language in Australia, simply because they were the first ones there to stay (except for the aboriginals ofcourse).
