Of course I support organisations that are not directly related to language.

Apart from the fact that all organisations use language, and many are international - you could say all organisations are language related.

It is not their primary purpose, however, although on second thoughts, I translate for one, a museum, and my father translated for another - the Bible Society, which has been a pioneer in translation work ever since it began.

What about medical work? Even our walking club has international connections! Others support sports clubs, local schools ...

Yes (Other?) May 18, 2021

I do support some non-language organizations but as a translator. Over the years, I have translated pro-bono for Equaily Now, Humana, Médecins du Monde, Médecins sans Frontières, Mercy Corps…

But the support was mutual, because they paid me quite well for the translation I created for them. The person that I worked with from there was quite nice.

Avaaz, StayEuropean, CrowdJustice, occasional donations to UNICEF, Red Cross, etc. Probably a few others that don't come to mind right now.

Regarding nos. 2 and 3, as the UK parliament has given up its job of holding the government to account, I feel I should support private initiatives that have taken over that task.

Wikipedia May 23, 2021

Here in Italy I've always given my optional 5x1000 tax donation (0.5% of income tax paid) to Wiki. It seems only fair, seeing how much we all seem to use it. Sometimes when relatives ask what I'd like as a gift, I also tell them to make a small donation to Wiki.
