Because of the pandemic crisis I did notice a big drop on translation demand from my consumer-goods clients but somehow this was compensated by more jobs from other customers. All in all, business has remained more or less the same, meaning that the road has been as bumpy as ever…

I have been seeing a steady increase in job volume ever since I quit my last job as an employee and went full freelance, with 2020 being my most successful year so far (yes, in spite of the pandemic). 2021 was very slightly less successful and 2022 is shaping up to be about the same.

There has been a fall due to the pandemic. Some customers no longer request translations, others are having fewer documents translated. There is also enormous price pressure as many agencies and translators are undercutting the market helped by online marketplace websites.

Work flow has increased for me, but one has to keep base effects in mind i.e. whether the starting point for measuring this change was artificially high or low. I would say it was low.
1) The global economy began slowing noticeably in mid-2019, even before COVID-19 emerged.
2) COVID-19 then depressed economic activity globally, although it did boost some sectors.
3) There has been a fairly strong "post"-COVID-19 rebound that will probably not be sustained.

It's not easy to separate all those effects out and arrive at a figure for organic growth between a point 2-3 years ago and today. I'd guess that there has been a modest increase in demand for financial materials that reflects additional regulatory / social pressure.

Only Over The Past Few Months,.. | May 16, 2022 |
...I have had at least a few offers to "come on board". But only a couple of these offers were related to translation, except in a tangential sort of way. So I decided to not go forward with any of them. In a way, I'm glad because that is allowing me to do things to help my 98-year old mother with what she needs right now; but those decisions are also helping me take better care of myself until the next book translation comes along.

yes, but it's decreasing again | May 16, 2022 |
The biggest increase took place 4 years ago. After 4 very good years, including during the pandemic, income is slowing down this year again and price war is getting harder and harder.

I managed to have a durable cooperation with three serious agencies.
Two in the EU and one in the US
3 serious clienfs is all a freelancer needs along with small and some bigger gigs...

It's not the kind of thing I keep an eye on. I have some new (direct) clients, but that doesn't necessarily mean I have more work. AFAIK, my earnings are roughly the same as they were 2 or 3 years ago
No noticeable change | May 16, 2022 |
In 2020/2021 combined, I earned a bit more than usual: less in 2020, more in 2021. Both years are within the usual fluctuations.
Because of COVID and lock-downs, I must have had fewer days off.

My volume was lowest in 2020, when the virus was at its peak. My clients are mostly international organizations, and for a while their employees were all hunkered at home trying to figure out how to work remotely. The flow of documents decreased dramatically. My work flow (and consequently my turnover) hasn't stopped increasing since 2016. There's still some margin left, but the limit is in sight.
