Received the same just like one hour ago from a said Ludwig von Klenze | Jul 14, 2023 |
Received the same just like one hour ago from a said Ludwig von Klenze. Offering me a huge amount of newspaper articles to translate. In exchange he asks 1) for my bank account details to "send me money to buy the required software" necessary to send the translation to the targeted audience.... Beware....... | | | Chloe Pellegrin United Kingdom Local time: 08:01 Member (2013) English to French He's getting better | Jul 17, 2023 |
I gave him the benefit of the doubt as I received the email from addeco and the domain seemed genuine (I didn't know how to check from provenance). And dodgy English and an abrupt manner is the language of many of my project managers! He's got a whole website set up to 'download software from'. If you register with your name he comes back to you asking for a photo ID etc. Er, no thank you. But now I'm thinking he's got quite a bit of information about me, although hopefully nothing he can use to... I know we give this information freely to agencies etc, but now it's in the wrong hands I'm wondering what he can do with it. It's a pretty slick scam, the best I've seen and targeting translators specifically, which is a worry. Can we put a warning on the Blue Board by registering him under Adecco? ▲ Collapse | | | Natalie Poland Local time: 09:01 Member (2002) English to Russian + ... There is, however, a public note at Adecco's record with a warning about impersonators. | | | Jörgen Winther Sweden Local time: 09:01 Member (2023) English to Danish + ... Maybe there are even more examples with different search words. Hmm... when will we ever learn?

Names not worth remembering | Jul 21, 2023 |
It is pointless to try to remember or record the alleged names and Gmail addresses of scammers, as the names would nearly all be fake, and they can create new Gmail addresses faster than they can be recorded. What sort of idiot would commit crime in public using their real name? 'Hey, my name is Joe Criminal and I'm here to steal your money. If you report me to the police, don't forget to give them my name.' The things to remember are the mode of operation and all the l...
